Overwhelmed by Sex Obsessed Media?
If you’re like me, a parent raising kids, there are many times where you feel helpless and overwhelmed. I can imagine that during any era during the last few thousand years, it would have been frustrating to teach a teen the difference between right and wrong. I’m sure teens have always had a tendency to think they’re smarter than their parents and that bad things only happen to other people. Even in the Middle Ages, it must have been “Mom, Lance wasn’t even wearing his armor” or “Come on dad, get off my case on the leprosy thing – I’ll wash my hands”. While the Middle Ages had leprosy and other dangers to contend with, today’s electronic era has a new leprosy that yesterday’s parents never had to worry about. The new disease in our homes is a sex obsessed, humanistic media that ridicules and takes daily shots at Judeo-Christian values. The new leprosy tries to eat away and ridicule almost every tenet of morality we’ve attempted to instill in our kids, leaving most parents feeling helpless against such a media machine.
Television: Almost every time our family watches TV together, I end up in a frantic search for the remote control “off” button. You know what I’m talking about: It’s the Hardees commercial with a sultry girl in a bikini eating a juicy burger; it’s the ad for Desperate Housewifes; it’s the Viagra commercials that run at breaks for American Idol! That brief moment when the TV was off used to be a teachable time to explain the real purpose and proper place for our God given, beautiful gift of sexuality. It used to be a good opportunity for explaining to a confused 14 year old something like “Yes dear, Lindsey Lohan and Brittany Spears are so desperate for attention that they’re willing to sell their integrity to get back in the media spotlight.” Now the TV interruptions have become so frequent I just end up apologizing for a world gone absolutely crazy.
Internet: Unlike TV, my children are usually on the internet alone - I’m rarely there at their side explaining things to them. Web morality is many times worse than TV, with sexual imagery and HD pornographic videos of just about any sex act. Also unlike TV, there are practically no government limitations on Internet depravities. With a few exceptions, the government looks the other way, leaving the burden on parents to shield their family.
We understand our mission at Bsecure is to stand in this gap by providing you with the latest, flexible filtering tools to help enforce your morality and house rules. We think parental control software is a must in today’s world, but know that the most valuable ingredient is you. Even though your teen may think they know it all, they’re still confused on the inside and looking for guidance. Don’t forget to do your part by continuously reminding him/her of their purpose and proper time for their gift of sexuality. The good news is, teens really will listen and are smart enough to know the truth when they hear it. Parents, keep up the good fight. You are the one your child listens to most and you can prevent this modern day disease from entering your home.
